Uni’s Out

Broken up from uni for the summer. Five months to just relax, after stressful deadlines to complete work I can’t wait to just sit back and not have to worry about getting anything done. Most of the work from this year will be making it’s way on up to my portfolio at some point in the next few weeks. Not really sure what I am meant to do over the summer though if I’m honest I don’t have any internships lined up and budget cuts at work mean a distinct lack of hours dispensing. Might try and push some creative boundaries over the summer. Got a lot of holga films to develop and process so that should keep me occupied for a few weeks. Anyway less rambling I’ll finish this post off with some images of recent work.

Photographing the Moon

So yesterday was supermoon day, and I decided to push myself to get the best crisp shot of the moon as I could. Coincidently I had tried to take a photo of the moon earlier in the week, that time from inside my room. I purchased a Canon 75-300mm telephoto lens just after xmas and I haven’t really had chance to use it to its full potential until yesterday.

The photo above is a photo I had taken at the start of the week. Read the full post »

12 of 12 march 2011

Been terrible on my new years resolution of doing 12 of 12′s more regularly. So I made sure to take my camera out on my lunch break at work.

12 of 12 is a creation of Chad Darnell so check out his site for the entire 12 of 12 archive.

Because I took these photos on my lunch break over a period of 40 minutes this months 12 of 12 is very flower centric.

Holga Experiments!

I recently acquired a holga 120N from my girlfriend for christmas and I haven’t been able to stop shooting. I’ve missed taking photos in a film format, something I haven’t done since my first year of college way back in 2007. Currently I have run through two 120mm bnw films and one 35mm colour. Experimentation is the key to this camera. It’s by no way exact but completely charming.

here are a few examples of photos that have actually managed to come out!

12 of 12 December

I have been terrible with my 12 of 12 posts this year. This is my hopefully redeeming post.

I woke up really late today. Woops! this is about 2:30 in the afternoon and the sun is piercing the windows of my house.

bit of late editing on a project im working on at uni.

coming home to find my delivery of 120mm ilford film had come. Can’t wait to start taking photos with my new holga.

Dinner for tonight amazing gammon roast courtesy of my mum.

sitting waiting for my train back to Winchester at Southampton Central. pretty horrid station to be honest.

eventually my train arrived and just so everyone know’s I hate cross country trains with a passion!

took a major detour from my normal route back to halls to take a photo of the cathedral very moody looking at night.

nice bit of bokeh of the xmas lights near the cathedral.

some more bokeh this didn’t work so well but it still looks pretty.

this worked a bit better than the one before of the entire high street.

think I might have gone a bit bokeh crazy tonight but I have never really had a chance to experiment with it. This is an entire net of lights in the highstreet.

finally time to change the wallpaper on my desktop to a Winter themed one!

another 12 of 12 completed. New years resolution is most defiantly to be on the ball with taking my photos. check out chad darnell’s site for more 12 of 12 entries this month.

Survived the first month,

So hey I survived the first month of uni. Three projects in and I’m still not really integrating well into groups. fixed up a couple of good friends in Sam & Robin (check out their work). Decided this morning I would actually start blogging again to coincide with me still working on my portfolio, the blogs been a bit forgotten about whilst I transitioned to uni.

Here is a brief look at some work from the last two projects:

Project 1 involved the creation of a low cost zine based around Winchester. With the final outcome produced on the photocopier. Studying the forms of buildings and landscapes of Winchester and flipping themselves onto each other to create a visually interesting and thoughtful piece of work.

Project 2 involved the creation of a pinhole camera from an object our choosing. I chose to create mine from a story book in a charity shop. all of these photos apart from the 2nd are 8 second exposures in the day with the 2nd photo being an hour and a half at nightime.

It’s 5:48 in the morning and I cant sleep.

So yeah it’s nearly 6AM and I cant sleep at all, my sleep pattern has been so messed up recently and I keep finding myself waking up at 3:30 in the afternoon which doesn’t help things. I have work in just over two hours which recently has held no thrill for me. Recently I was given a very slight promotion but keeping up with the training has just proved to be a hassle with only working one day a week.

Beyond work my time at AUCB came to an end a couple of months back and I start at my new university: Winchester School of Art in just under a month and I’m quite apprehensive to say the least. Will my hallmates like me. Will my classmates like me. Will I be a total failure. There’s a lot to go wrong with moving out and taking on the world by myself. Although at the same time its very exciting to go out and make a name for myself. I’m hoping to exhibit some work on the blog as early as October or November whilst I build up my portfolio to release to the world properly (I’m picky with the design of it). I think I’ve gone on for long enough at 6 in the morning so I will leave you with some generic uni photos of what my room in halls is like. I will post some photos when I have all of my kit set up and when I actually move in.

All Things New

Time for an update!

  • First up. University is over! I have finished my course and start at another Winchester School Of Art in October (hopefully) my art show starts in a week and I cant wait to go round on the private showing to see what people are thinking and saying about my pieces.
  • Second up I have eventually started updating my Portfolio with work now that I have all this time off, check it out if you have the time, it only has two pieces of work at the moment, but its being updated daily.
  • Finally I am appealing for work! I need illustration, and graphic design work over the summer. If you have a firm or you just need the odd job working on email me and I will see if we can work something out!

Some Photo’s from my art show to close this post off…
